What is a disassoctiation?

  • A disassociation (diss) is the term credit reference agencies use when referring to the removal of a financial associate from your credit report.

If some one is showing on your report as a financial associate, but you no longer share any credit agreements with that person, you can apply to have them removed from your credit report by requesting a disassociation.

Usually this will include filling out financial connections questionnaire.

The questionnaire will usually ask for your name, DOB and address details as well as those of the person with whom you wish to disassociate. There will be a few tick boxes, asking if you share any joint agreements with that person etc.

If you fill out a paper questionnaire, you will need to sign it. It will ask for the other persons signature but that is not always possible to obtain, so is not essential.

You can usually complete an online questionnaire. Just ask the credit reference agency for a link.

You should note that this will not remove the association information from the credit reference agencies records, it will simply suppress it so it does not show on your report.

This means that if you make another joint application with some one you have disassociated from, all of your previous association entries with that person can reappear on your credit report.
