What is a Financial Association?

  • An association is an entry on your credit report that shows you share a financial connection with the person listed.

These entries can be created when you make a joint application, joint proposal or when you share a joint account with someone.

When a lender looks at your report, they will be able to see any information recorded in your financial associates name.

They are allowed to take this information into account when making a lending decision, even if you are not making a joint application.

If you get refused credit and have a good credit history yourself, you may want your financial associate to check their report.

However they are not required by law to do this.

If you have a financial association entry on your report and no longer share any joint accounts with that person, you should contact the credit reference agency and request a disassociation.
